Ok! So, I've got some good news, bad news, and I'm-not-sure-yet news for you.
The Good News:
I have gotten the distance calculation to work in test mode. I can now tell how
far apart two locations are inside the United States. Which means eventually the
website will show you all the free stuff within X miles from your house, and email you a
notice whenever someone within X miles from your house posts something to freecycle. (X being
a distance you specify) Initially, this will only work for the US, but it should
be able to expand internationally in time. Also, we are going to be adding Groups
to the website. This should make it much easier for non-profits, church groups,
and such to arrange their own donation programs, events, newsletters and fundraising.
I think this will be really cool.
Which brings us to the Bad News.
My vacation request was denied. So, I probably won't have a solid block of time
to bang out these features until January. The distance calculation will hopefully
be finished via nights and weekends before the New Year, but I make no promises.
The chaos this time of year isn't helping things either. I love Christmas,
but it really screws with the schedule.
Finally, the not-sure-yet news.
The chaos at work has been extra chaotic. There are all kinds of rumors that are
flying, which I would love to talk about, but probably shouldn't (Hello Kelly
from HR! :). The main problem being that I cannot tell you with any degree of
confidence exactly which state I will be spending most of my time come
January, and there is more than one contender for the likely candidates.
Hopefully the happy option of joy will beat out the rest, which will result in
granting me time to finish that To-Do list. Some of these things will not only help
you guys out, but they also look like they are going to be fun to code (my geek
senses are Tingling!) Hopefully, I'll be able to get to them soon.
And now for something completely different:
Apparently I look a lot like Jim Carrey :p
